Valheim 0.147.3

Dedicated servers now always connect directly instead of going through Steam Datagram Relay (SDR), which should lower latency for most players. Private and LAN-only servers are back, and the Join IP button now handles LAN addresses and DNS names. The patch also fixes several network glitches and makes small tweaks to wolves and boss trophies.

Changes and balancing 8

  • Dedicated servers use direct IP connections rather than SDR, which fixes problems with slow Steam relays in some parts of the world.
  • The -public 1/0 flag is back for dedicated servers, so a server started with "-public 0" is private and can be used for local LAN-only hosting.
  • Private dedicated servers can only be joined through the Join IP button.
  • The Join IP button now accepts LAN connections (dedicated servers only) and supports DNS names.
  • Wolf procreation is lowered slightly.
  • Boss trophies are less likely to talk.
  • Haldor's head turn is smoother.
  • The dedicated server PDF manual has been updated, and localization has been updated.

Fixes 3

  • Object network interpolation is skipped when an object was far away, which fixes other players appearing to fly through the air when entering dungeons or leaving portals.
  • Fixed a network problem with Bonemass's puke effect.
  • Items can no longer be picked up while entering portals.

Other 2

  • The developer hopes the direct connections will solve many of the connection problems introduced by last week's patches, which came from switching the socket backend.
  • Valve is working on fixes to SDR, which is still used when joining non-dedicated servers, and a beta Steam client with some of these fixes may already be available.
