Valheim 0.217.14: Hildir's Request
Haldor's sister Hildir joins the world as a new vendor. Her tasks unlock clothing and base items you can buy with gold. The update also adds world modifiers for tuning difficulty and other settings, three new dungeon locations, new hair and beard styles, and many building and quality-of-life improvements.
New content 8
- Hildir the merchant is a new NPC found at Hildir's camp; most of her stock is missing, and completing her tasks unlocks new clothing and base items to buy from her.
- Three new locations were added: the Smouldering tomb and Howling cavern (classic dungeons) and the Sealed tower (an open dungeon), along with 3 new mini bosses.
- A World modifiers button on the start game screen lets you pick a preset or design your own, with options for difficulty, portals, resources, raids and more.
- 8 different fireworks were added, including Thunderstone and Black Core thrown in the fire, as well as the new Sparkler item.
- New clothing includes 10 hats and headscarves and 14 dresses and tunics.
- Two new crafting extensions arrive: the Vice for the black forge and the Unfading Candle for the magetable, each upgradeable to level 3.
- Hair and beard options grow by 8 hairstyles and 5 beard styles, supported by a new Barber kit material and Barber station furniture.
- The Iron pit material and the Firepit furniture were also added, along with 4 new music tracks.
Changes and balancing 13
- Hair and beards now stay visible when you wear a helmet.
- A quick-stack button puts every item that already exists in a container from your inventory into it; holding the use key while interacting with a container does the same.
- You can now pick the snapping point yourself with Q and E for precise building, and precision placement now appears while holding ctrl.
- You can copy a build piece while in build mode.
- Removing a piece now happens when you release the button instead of pressing it, so you can change your mind and hover away.
- The camera can zoom while using the hammer, hoe or cultivator when the mouse has no rotation to do, and always on gamepad.
- Plants now grow into roughly their sapling's rotation, though they start with a random rotation when planted.
- Workbenches and forges get a slightly larger build range when upgraded, and crafting bench build range is now cylindrical instead of spherical.
- Enemy spawn blocking and item despawn now match the workbench build radius.
- The intro sequence can be skipped from the pause menu, and the game can be paused during it.
- Hugin now gives hints that traders can be found in the game.
- God mode now lets damage reduce you to 1 health instead of blocking all damage.
- All fire effects were overhauled, Haldor's animations were updated, and the new optimised low vegetation setting keeps a small amount of grass instead of none.
Fixes 14
- Fixed AI updates so mobs should feel more responsive again, and fixed the Riding skill not improving.
- Fixed a level-up calculation that was slightly off depending on when you die.
- Fixed boats falling through the ocean, wind affecting water in caves, distorted LOD terrain near modified terrain, and a vegetation shader issue.
- Fixed music getting stuck in the morning and evening in dungeons.
- Fixed signs missing special characters and glowing signs, and fixed missing inventory tooltips and some broken item names.
- Chat no longer opens on Ping or blocks input for other UI such as the map; the minimap pin input field no longer turns invisible on PC.
- The join code is now hidden when the HUD is toggled off, and menus are blocked while the HUD is hidden.
- Opening the console now blocks hotbar navigation, the character no longer jumps while in piece selection, and auto run resets after a dodge.
- Fixed a server list bug that could make it stop working, along with improvements to the world list, favourite servers refresh and saved IP addresses.
- Save stability: fixed too many world backups after migrating from an older version, a new world reusing the seed of a just-deleted world with the same name, worlds with very large dungeon seeds not loading, server and client saves getting out of sync, and manual saves running twice.
- A cloud storage check now runs after saving and before world start to prevent world wipes, and several crashes related to generation and projectiles were fixed.
- Fixed a memory leak when opening and closing the skill dialog, a crash related to the old portal, and a threading issue that makes the game quit faster.
- Xbox: fixed ticks not attaching correctly, jumping while selecting a building piece, and vegetation and reflection shaders; offline players can now send map pings and no longer see privilege pop-ups.
- Text and localisation fixes include Asian font readability in bold, rune-stones showing only rune symbols, missing updates after changing language, and stray control characters in item descriptions.
Other 5
- Xbox and controller users get another controller scheme, the ability to hide the HUD, quick selection commands (Store: X+DPad, Load: Y+DPad), and the Alt functionality key moved to LB for Console 2 mapping.
- New console commands include tombstone, resetworldkeys, setworldpreset, setworldmodifier and itemset hildir; tombstones can be deleted with forcedelete.
- The itemset command has a new 'base' set and can take a number to override item level (for example, itemset meadows 4 gives level 4 meadows items), and it limits items to level 4.
- The Manage Saves menu is wider and shows the time of the timestamp, and timestamps now come from the file name when present so moving files to or from the cloud no longer changes their sort order.
- The spawn command can now specify fields, and a merch store button was added to the main menu.
