Valheim 0.217.4: Hildir's Request

This public test build, which may be unstable, introduces Hildir, Haldor's sister, a merchant who has lost most of her stock and may ask for your help when you find her. It also adds world modifiers on the start game screen, letting you pick an easier or harder game or design your own mix. Along with new locations, clothing, hairstyles and items come a quick-stack button, manual snapping for building, and many fixes.

New content 8

  • Hildir the merchant is a new NPC, and her camp (Hildir's camp) is a new location.
  • Three new dungeon locations arrive: the Smouldering tomb and the Howling cavern (both classic dungeons) and the Sealed tower (an open dungeon), along with 3 new mini bosses.
  • A world modifiers button on the start game screen offers many customization and difficulty options, with presets or your own design.
  • 8 different Fireworks are added, including Thunderstone and Black Core thrown in the fire, plus a new Sparkler item.
  • New clothing includes 10 hats and headscarves and 14 dresses and tunics.
  • Two new crafting extensions appear: the Vice Grip for the Black forge and the Unfading Candle for the Magetable.
  • The Barber kit material and Barber station furniture unlock 8 new hairstyles and 5 new beard styles.
  • The Iron pit material and Firepit furniture are new, and 4 new music tracks are added.

Changes and balancing 11

  • Hair and beards are now visible when wearing helmets.
  • A Quick stack button (or Shift-E) quickly places all items from your inventory that are already in a container.
  • You can manually pick the snapping point with Q and E for precise building.
  • The Workbench and Forge get a slightly larger build range when upgraded, and crafting benches' build range is now cylindrical instead of spherical.
  • The intro sequence can be skipped from the pause menu, and the game can be paused during the intro.
  • A new controller scheme is added, and the HUD can be hidden when using a controller and on Xbox.
  • Haldor's animations are updated, and Hugin hints now tell players that traders can be found in the world.
  • All fire effects are overhauled, and smoke balls from fires now rotate randomly and no longer pop in when they spawn.
  • The Manage Saves menu is wider and shows the time of each timestamp.
  • Timestamps are now read from the file name when present, so moving a save file to or from the cloud no longer changes its sort order.
  • God mode now lets damage bring you down to 1 health instead of blocking all damage.

Fixes 11

  • Fixed a bug that made the level up calculation slightly off depending on when you die.
  • The lag spike when selecting worlds in the Select World menu is reduced.
  • Unnecessary characters such as spaces are no longer saved to the server list with a parseable IP address, and a bug that could stop the server list from working is fixed.
  • Chat no longer opens on Ping and no longer blocks input for other UI such as the map.
  • Fixed the minimap pin input field becoming invisible on PC.
  • The join code is now hidden when the HUD is toggled off, and menu usage is blocked while the HUD is hidden.
  • Opening the console now blocks hotbar navigation.
  • Water in caves is no longer affected by wind.
  • Missing special characters on signs are fixed.
  • Xbox fixes: ticks now attach correctly, and the player no longer jumps while selecting a building piece.
  • Offline players on Xbox and the MS store version can now send map pings.

Other 4

  • The spawn command can now specify fields.
  • The new console command "tombstone" creates tombstones.
  • A new itemset 'base' is added, and the itemset command can take a number to set the level of all items, so "itemset meadows 4" gives level 4 meadows items.
  • New console commands for world modifiers: resetworldkeys resets all modifiers to default, setworldpreset applies a named preset, and setworldmodifier sets a single modifier value.
