Valheim 0.211.7: Crossplay
Valheim now supports crossplay, so you can join or host games with friends no matter which platform they use. Players on other platforms enter games with a join code, and dedicated server hosts must turn crossplay on for non-Steam players to connect. The Join Game menu has been updated and a new save management screen has been added.
New content 4
- Full crossplay support has been added, letting you play with any other Valheim player regardless of platform.
- A new 'Manage saves' screen makes it easier to restore or remove saves and backups.
- The 'Join Game' tab now lets you mark servers as favourites and shows whether a server is running and whether it supports crossplay.
- A new Steam branch called "default_old" lets you keep playing the previous Steam version if your server has not been updated yet; Steam might need a restart before the branch appears.
Changes and balancing 4
- Steam players who play only with other Steam players join games the same way as before, now with the option to favourite a server.
- When one or more players are on a different platform, a join code is used to enter the game instead.
- In-game hosting got a minor network optimization, so it is less demanding for the host when other players are in the game at the same time.
- The starting menu GUI changed slightly to make joining other people's worlds smoother.
Other 4
- Dedicated server hosts must run their server with the '-crossplay' parameter for non-Steam players to join; this makes the backend use Playfab instead of Steamworks.
- A crossplay dedicated server can be joined with the regular IP address or with a join code, which is shown when you join and is regenerated each time the server restarts.
- In the server list, a question mark means the server status is uncertain, a red X means the server is down, and a shuffle icon means the server supports crossplay.
- Everyone needs the same patch version to connect with each other, and the version number is in the bottom right corner of the main menu.
