Valheim 0.221.10

Patch 0.221.10 marks five years since Valheim's Early Access launch with new celebratory items, emotes and hairstyles. It also reworks the graphics settings, improves performance in many areas and fixes several crashes. The Xbox, Steam Deck and Mac versions get platform-specific improvements.

New content 6

  • Two new emotes, Vibe and LoveYou, arrive along with a radial menu for choosing emotes.
  • Two new buildpieces are added: the Flower Garland and Fey Lights.
  • The Frosted Sweetbread is a new consumable.
  • Early Axes are a new weapon, and two new materials, Mysterious Axe Head and Curious Axe Head, are added.
  • The Celebratory Cap is a new hat.
  • Three new hairstyles are available: Champion, Chronicler and Sunbringer.

Changes and balancing 10

  • The Carapace Buckler now gives 5 adrenaline on a perfect block instead of 10, matching other shields.
  • The hairstyles Castellan, Painter Curls, Pulled Back Curls and Tidy Curls have been tweaked, as has the berserker armour.
  • The "Render scale" slider is replaced by a "3D resolution limit" dropdown with fixed resolutions.
  • A new "Upscaling method" setting adds a "Pixelated" option.
  • SSAO gets a new "Low" quality option that looks similar to the existing one, now named "High", at a much lower performance cost.
  • The frame rate limiter now works together with v-sync and is applied during the splash/loading screen.
  • The resolution dropdown now lists resolutions from highest to lowest.
  • The game engine is updated to Unity 6000.0.61f1, and a localization string for the tombstone container is added.
  • Performance is improved in several ways: armor stands use far less CPU, grass no longer appears in environment reflections, unused shield dome and heat distortion effects skip a texture copy, engine settings are tuned for areas with many instances, and sound effects start with less latency.
  • Memory use is reduced for the minimap and for graphics presets, and a duplicated matchmaking manager that wasted performance in the start menu is removed.

Fixes 6

  • Fixed a multiplayer crash when a T.W.I.G. throws a rock at a player standing at the edge of a shield dome.
  • Fixed a crash when hovering the cursor over a bee hive without being its network owner.
  • Fixed audio stutter when many sounds play at once.
  • Fixed Yggdrasil not showing in environment reflections.
  • Fixed the "Generating" progress bar not always appearing during world generation.
  • Fixed the server list sometimes failing to save when quitting from the start menu.

Other 8

  • Windows, Linux and MacOS: graphics presets are reworked and unified across the three platforms, and automatic render scale is no longer sometimes set wrongly in windowed mode.
  • Steam: the player list now shows profile pictures of non-friends too.
  • Mac App Store: the error message is clearer when trying to play online without being logged in to Game Center.
  • Steam Deck: Performance mode now reaches 60 fps, presets are tuned for battery life, and native resolution is used on first start instead of 1366x768.
  • Xbox: settings are now stored per user and synced to the cloud, and the UI renders at native resolution, up to 4K, on Xbox Series S|X and Xbox One X.
  • Xbox: graphics improve on all consoles with more point lights, plus SSAO on Xbox One and One S, point light shadows on Series S and Series X, and adjusted resolutions on Series X.
  • Xbox: power draw is reduced further while the game runs in the background.
  • For modders: sprite atlases are now included in the extended manifest file for Asset Bundles.
