Valheim meads: every mead, its effect and its recipe

Valheim's meads and potions cover resistances, health, stamina and Eitr regeneration, movement and combat boosts, and a few odd ones. This guide lists each one with what it does and how long it lasts. It also gives the biome where it first becomes available, where one is known. After the table, the meads are sorted by purpose so you can see which ones overlap.

How the meads group by purpose

Resistances and protection

Four entries protect you from something in the world around you, and all of them last 10 minutes:

  • Fire Resistance Barley Wine reduces the damage you take from burning.
  • Frost Resistance Mead protects you against the cold.
  • Poison Resistance Mead reduces the damage you take from poison. It is first available in Mistlands.
  • Anti-Sting Concoction keeps away certain unwanted companions.

Health, stamina and Eitr over time

This is the largest group, and it is where the names tell you the most. The sizes and the word "Lingering" mark the differences.

The healing meads all share the same basic effect, health over time:

  • Minor Healing Mead and Medium Healing Mead are both first available in Mistlands.
  • Major Healing Mead has the same effect and also lasts 2 minutes.

For stamina, Minor Stamina Mead and Medium Stamina Mead both let you regenerate stamina fast and last 2 minutes. Both are first available in Mistlands. For Eitr, Minor Eitr Mead gives Eitr over time for 2 minutes and is first available in Mistlands.

The Lingering meads cover all three resources: Lingering Healing Mead for health, Lingering Stamina Mead for stamina and Lingering Eitr Mead for Eitr. Each gives regeneration over time and lasts 5 minutes. That is longer than the 2 minutes of the Minor, Medium and Major meads, so the Lingering versions are the ones to look at if you want an effect that stays with you longer.

Tasty Mead is a trade-off rather than a pure boost. It gives lower health regeneration but increased stamina regeneration, and it is first available in Ashlands.

Movement and combat

These meads change how you move or fight:

  • Lightfoot Mead makes you feel lighter, almost like you could jump all the way to the branches of Yggdrasil itself. It lasts 10 minutes.
  • Tonic of Ratatosk lets you move quicker than ever before. It also lasts 10 minutes.
  • Draught of Vananidir brings the power of the sea-god as you brave the waves. It lasts 5 minutes.
  • Mead of Troll Endurance brings incredible strength, but only for a time. It lasts 5 minutes.
  • Berserkir Mead makes you fight with the ferocity of a mad and frenzied creature for a short while.

Of these, Lightfoot Mead and Tonic of Ratatosk last twice as long as Draught of Vananidir and Mead of Troll Endurance.

Animals and other oddities

Brew of Animal Whispers makes animals less reluctant to accept you into their flock, and it lasts 10 minutes. Love Potion lasts 5 minutes and is described only as "All is fair in love and war."

Things that make you feel ill

Three entries share the same effect: you don't feel so well and can't hold your food down. These are Bukeperries, Rotten Meat and Toadstool. Bukeperries is first available in Black Forest and Rotten Meat in Plains.

Quick reference by duration

Where to look first

Mistlands is the biome that stands out. The Minor and Medium healing, stamina and Eitr meads, along with Poison Resistance Mead, are all first available there. Ashlands brings Tasty Mead, while Black Forest and Plains are where Bukeperries and Rotten Meat first appear.
