Valheim 1.0.15
This small patch stops terrain from duplicating, a bug that hurt performance for some players. Jotun Warriors now drop more Deep North Armor moulds, and Writhans spawn more often and in more places. Items wrongly flagged as cheated are still waiting on a fix that must arrive on every platform at once.
Patch 1.0.15 is a small release. Its main change fixes a bug that caused duplicated terrain and reduced performance for some players. It also adjusts drops from Jotun Warriors, increases Writhan spawns, and changes how items touched by dev commands are handled.
If the terrain bug affected your world, you may see visual seams in the terrain. They can be removed, and the fix now makes that removal permanent.
What was fixed
- Terrain duplication: An issue that could duplicate terrain, and cost performance as a result, has been fixed.
- Terrain seams: If you were affected, some seams may remain visible in your terrain. Deform the terrain along a seam, or walk in the snow there, and it will disappear. Before this patch, seams came back after the area reloaded. Now they stay gone.
- Dev command items: Items affected by dev commands are no longer marked for characters that have the dev bypass command enabled. Their naming has been updated, and they can stack together again.
What changed
- Deep North Armor moulds: Both Jotun Warrior types now drop both medium and heavy armor moulds, which raises the drop chance for these moulds.
- Writhan: Their spawn rate has been increased, and so have the areas where they spawn.
Known problems
Items wrongly marked as cheated: Some players have items that are incorrectly flagged as cheated. A fix is planned, but it has to ship on all platforms at once so crossplay is not broken, so it will arrive in an upcoming patch. Until then you can keep playing normally with these items.
Lost item levels on stands: Items on item stands or armour stands could lose their levels and variants. The cause was the updated save format introduced in 1.0, which drops this data during conversion. Patch 1.0.12 fixed this, so worlds converted from now on convert correctly. If you were already affected, there are two workarounds:
- Revert your world from the backup made when you first loaded the new save format. All progress and changes made in the world since then will be lost.
- Make a copy of that backup and enter the backed-up world. Put all the affected items on your character, return to your main world, and replace the broken items.
If you need help with either workaround, you can reach the developers in the support channel on Discord.
Questions
Will the terrain seams come back after I remove them?
No. Before this patch, seams reappeared when the area was reloaded. Now they persist correctly, so once you deform the terrain or walk in the snow over a seam, it stays gone.
Do I need to do anything about items marked as cheated?
No. A fix is planned for an upcoming patch, and until then you can continue to play normally with those items.
Can I still play with friends before the patch reaches my platform?
Yes. The patch needs a few days to be uploaded to all platforms, but crossplay remains functional in the meantime, whichever platform you and your friends are on.
The full list of changes
Changes and balancing 2
- Both Jotun Warrior types now drop both the medium and heavy armor moulds, which raises the drop chance for Deep North Armor moulds.
- Writhans now spawn at a higher rate and in more areas.
Fixes 3
- Fixed a bug that could duplicate terrain and cause a loss of performance.
- Players who were affected by the duplication may see visual seams in their terrain; deforming the terrain along a seam or walking in the snow there makes it disappear, and it now stays gone after reloading the area instead of coming back.
- Items touched by dev commands are no longer marked on characters that have the dev bypass command enabled, their naming has been updated, and they can stack together again.
Known issues 4
- Some items are still wrongly marked as cheated; a fix is planned for an upcoming patch because it has to launch on all platforms at the same time to keep crossplay working, and until then the items can be played with normally.
- Items on item stands or armour stands can lose their levels and variants when a world is converted to the save format introduced in 1.0, because that data was lost in the conversion; Patch 1.0.12 fixed this, so worlds converted from now on convert correctly.
- If you were already affected by the lost levels, you can revert your world to the backup made when the new save format first loaded, which loses all progress and changes made since.
- The other option is to copy your backup, enter the backed-up world, pick up the affected items on your character, then return to your main world and replace the broken items.
Other 1
- The patch takes a few days to reach all platforms, but crossplay keeps working in the meantime.
