Valheim processing guide: smelters, kilns, furnaces, fermenters and cooking stations

Valheim has a set of stations that turn one item into another, and each works to its own rules. This guide covers the smelter-type stations (fuel, capacity, time per product and what they convert), the fermenter, and the cooking stations with their slots, cook times and what happens to burnt food.

Smelters and processors

These stations hold a stack of input and, for most of them, a stock of fuel. They produce one item per interval.

Windmillnone50n/an/a10

The Smelter and the Blast Furnace have identical fuel, capacity and timing. The Windmill is the fastest at 10 seconds per product and holds the most input at 50. The Hot Tub is the slowest at 5000 seconds.

Smelter

The Smelter burns Coal and handles the early and mid-game metals:

Blast Furnace

The Blast Furnace also burns Coal, with the same capacity and speed as the Smelter. It handles:

Charcoal Kiln

The Charcoal Kiln makes Coal, the fuel the Smelter and Blast Furnace burn. It takes three inputs:

It holds 25 and produces one Coal every 15 seconds, which is quicker than the 30 seconds the Smelter and Blast Furnace need for each product.

Eitr Refinery

The Eitr Refinery turns Soft Tissue into Refined Eitr. It burns Sap, using 1 per product, and holds 20 of both input and fuel. Each product takes 40 seconds, the longest of the working smelter-type stations except the Hot Tub.

Frigid Kiln

The Frigid Kiln makes Liquid Frost. It burns Ice as fuel, 5 per product, and holds 25 Ice. Each product takes 30 seconds.

Spinning Wheel

The Spinning Wheel turns Flax into Linen Thread. It needs a roof. It uses no fuel, holds 40 and takes 30 seconds per product.

Windmill

The Windmill uses no fuel and holds 50. It grinds one product every 10 seconds:

Hot Tub

The Hot Tub burns Wood, 1 per product, and holds 10. Each product takes 5000 seconds.

Fermenter

The Fermenter works in batches. Each batch takes 40 minutes. Almost every recipe makes 6 items per batch. The exception is Mead base: Berserkir, which makes 3.

Cooking stations

Cooking stations cook several items at once, each in its own slot. At every cooking station, food left too long burns and becomes Coal.

StationSlotsCook time
Cooking Station225 seconds for every recipe
Iron Cooking Station525 or 60 seconds
Stone Oven450 seconds for every recipe
Frost Foundry150 seconds for every recipe

Cooking Station

With 2 slots, the Cooking Station cooks eight foods, each in 25 seconds:

Iron Cooking Station

The Iron Cooking Station has 5 slots and cooks everything the Cooking Station does, plus more. Most recipes take 25 seconds:

Four recipes take 60 seconds:

Stone Oven

The Stone Oven has 4 slots. Every recipe takes 50 seconds:

Frost Foundry

The Frost Foundry is counted among the cooking stations. It has a single slot and takes 50 seconds per cast. It casts:

Each cast uses the recipe name "Cast:" followed by the item name, and the item is the output.
