Valheim trees: what each one gives and what it takes to fell

Every tree in Valheim has its own health, a minimum tool tier and a list of drops. This guide groups the trees by biome in the order you meet them. In the tables, each drop is shown as item, stack size and then its weight in brackets.

Meadows

TreeHealthTool tierDrop rollsDrops
Beech18002Resin 1 to 2 (0.25), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.25), Beech Seeds 2 to 3 (1)
Birch18022Resin 1 to 2 (0.5), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.5), Birch Seeds 1 to 2 (1)
Birch28021 to 2Resin 1 to 2 (0.5), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.5), Birch Seeds 1 to 2 (1)
Oak120022 to 3Resin 2 to 4 (1), Acorns 2 to 3 (1), Feathers 2 to 3 (0.5)

Beech1 is the only Meadows tree you can fell at tool tier 0. The birches and Oak1 need tier 2.

Oak1 has the most health here, at 200, and the most drop rolls, at 2 to 3. It also has the largest Resin stack of any tree in this guide, 2 to 4.

Black forest

TreeHealthTool tierDrop rollsDrops
Fir tree8001 to 2Fir Cone 1 to 1 (1), Feathers 1 to 1 (0.25), Resin 1 to 1 (0.25)
Pinetree 0112001 to 2Resin 1 to 1 (1), Feathers 1 to 1 (0.25), Pine Cone 1 to 1 (1)

Both trees can be felled at tool tier 0. Pinetree 01 has more health (120 against 80), but it gives Resin with a weight of 1, where the Fir tree gives it at 0.25.

Swamp

  • Swamp tree1: 80 health, tool tier 2, 1 drop roll.

Mountain

The Fir tree also grows in the Mountain. Its figures are the same as in the Black forest: 80 health, tool tier 0, 1 to 2 drop rolls, and drops of Fir Cone, Feathers and Resin.

Plains

Birch1 aut8021 to 2Resin 1 to 2 (0.5), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.5), Birch Seeds 1 to 2 (1)
Birch2 aut8021 to 2Resin 1 to 2 (0.5), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.5), Birch Seeds 1 to 2 (1)

These are the autumn birches. They match their Meadows counterparts on health, tool tier and drops. The one difference is that Birch1 aut has 1 to 2 drop rolls, where Birch1 has 2.

Mistlands

TreeHealthTool tierDrop rollsDrops
Ygga shoot110042Resin 1 to 2 (0.25), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.25)
Ygga shoot210042Resin 1 to 2 (0.25), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.25)
Ygga shoot310042Resin 1 to 2 (0.25), Feathers 1 to 2 (0.25)

The Ygga shoots need tool tier 4, the highest of any tree here. All three have the same health and drops.

Ash lands

TreeHealthTool tierDrop rollsDrops
Ashlands tree120001 to 2Ashwood 1 to 2 (1), Charcoal Resin 1 to 1 (0.5)
Ashlands tree320001 to 2Ashwood 1 to 2 (1), Charcoal Resin 1 to 1 (0.5)
Ashlands tree620001 to 2Ashwood 1 to 2 (1), Charcoal Resin 1 to 1 (0.5)

Every Ashlands tree has 200 health and needs only tool tier 0.

Ashlands tree4 and Ashlands tree5 have the same figures and drops as the trees above. Ashlands tree6 big matches them too, except that its Charcoal Resin weight is 0.25 rather than 0.5.

Deep north

TreeHealthTool tierDrop rollsDrops
Pinetree snow12001 to 2Resin 1 to 1 (1), Feathers 1 to 1 (0.25), Pine Cone 1 to 1 (1)
Pinetree snow dead12001 to 2Resin 1 to 1 (1), Feathers 1 to 1 (0.25), Pine Cone 1 to 1 (1)
Snow fir tree20001 to 2Fir Cone 1 to 1 (1), Feathers 1 to 1 (0.25), Resin 1 to 1 (0.25)
Snow fir tree 220001 to 2Fir Cone 1 to 1 (1), Feathers 1 to 1 (0.25), Resin 1 to 1 (0.25)

All of these can be felled at tool tier 0. The snow pines have 120 health, the same as Pinetree 01. The snow firs have 200 health, which is more than the 80 of the ordinary Fir tree.

Other variants

  • Fir tree big: 200 health, tool tier 0, 1 to 2 drop rolls. It drops Fir Cone, Feathers and Resin, the same as the Fir tree.
  • Pine tree: 120 health, tool tier 0, 1 drop roll.

Telling the trees apart by what they drop

The items in a tree's drop list show which family it belongs to:

  • Ashwood appears only in the drop lists of the Ashlands trees, alongside Charcoal Resin.
  • Birch Seeds point to a birch, in the Meadows or on the Plains.
  • Beech Seeds point to Beech1.
  • Acorns point to Oak1.
  • Fir Cone points to a fir: the Fir tree, Fir tree big, or the snow firs.
  • Pine Cone points to a pine: Pinetree 01 or the snow pines.
  • Resin and Feathers appear on many trees, so they do not identify a tree. The Ygga shoots drop only these two.

When you need the right tool, check the biome first. Tier 0 covers every Black forest, Mountain, Deep north and Ash lands tree listed above, and Beech1 in the Meadows. The birches, Oak1 and Swamp tree1 need tier 2. The Ygga shoots in the Mistlands need tier 4.
