Valheim taming guide: every tameable creature

Taming in Valheim comes down to a few questions: what the creature eats, how long it stays fed, whether it produces offspring and whether you can give it orders. This guide lists every tameable creature with its food, its offspring and where to find it, starting with a summary table.

What the table shows

  • Every creature takes 30 minutes to tame, so none is quicker than another.
  • Most stay fed for 10 minutes after eating. The Skelett is the exception at 1 minute.
  • The Wolf is the only creature you can command.
  • Lox and Moose have the most health at 1000, followed by Asksvin at 800. Boar and Hen have the least at 10.

Offspring

These creatures produce offspring:

Asksvin

The Asksvin has 800 health and is found in the Ashlands. It takes 30 minutes to tame and stays fed for 10 minutes after eating.

It eats:

Its offspring is the Asksvin Egg. You cannot command it.

Boar

The Boar lives in the Meadows and has 10 health. Taming takes 30 minutes, and it stays fed for 10 minutes after each meal.

It eats:

Its offspring is the Piggy. You cannot command it.

Hen

The Hen has 10 health and takes 30 minutes to tame. It stays fed for 10 minutes after eating.

It eats:

Its offspring is the Egg. You cannot command it.

Lox

The Lox is found in the Plains and has 1000 health, tied with the Moose for the most of any tameable creature. Taming takes 30 minutes, and it stays fed for 10 minutes after eating.

It eats:

Its offspring is the Lox Calf. You cannot command it.

Moose

The Moose is found in the Deep North and has 1000 health. It takes 30 minutes to tame and stays fed for 10 minutes after eating.

Its diet is the narrowest on the list: it eats only Lingonberries. Its offspring is the Moose Calf. You cannot command it.

Skelett

The Skelett has 400 health and takes 30 minutes to tame. It stays fed for only 1 minute after eating, the shortest of any tameable creature. You cannot command it.

Wolf

The Wolf is found in the Mountains and has 80 health. It takes 30 minutes to tame and stays fed for 10 minutes after eating.

It eats:

Its offspring is the Wolf Cub. It is the only tameable creature you can command.

Choosing what to tame

  • Largest food list: the Boar, Hen and Wolf each eat six or more different foods, so you have the most choice of what to feed them. The Hen and Wolf each list seven.
  • Smallest food list: the Moose eats only Lingonberries.
  • Overlapping foods: Barley feeds both the Hen and the Lox. Boar Meat and Lox Meat feed the Wolf, so the meat of two other tameable creatures is on its menu.
  • Biomes: the Boar is found in the Meadows, the Wolf in the Mountains, the Lox in the Plains, the Moose in the Deep North and the Asksvin in the Ashlands.
  • Commands: if you want a creature that follows your orders, the Wolf is the only choice.
