The best food in Valheim

Valheim has 97 foods, and most of them are outclassed by a handful of dishes. This guide covers the rules of eating first, then the strongest foods for health, stamina and eitr, then the foods that last longest. It ends with the best food from each biome, in the order you reach them.

How eating works

  • You can eat three foods at once. Each adds its health, stamina and eitr to a base of 25 health and 50 stamina.
  • Each of the three slots needs a different food. You cannot eat the same food twice at once.
  • A food gives its full value when you eat it and less as its timer runs down.
  • You can eat the same food again once half of its time is gone.

Choosing food therefore means choosing three different dishes. Because a food's value fades as its timer runs down, how long it lasts matters as well as how much it gives.

The tables below show each food's health, stamina and eitr, its duration in minutes, and its regeneration per tick.

Foods with the most health

If you want a bigger health bar, these are the foods to look at.

Cooked Bonemaw Meat90300256
Misthare Supreme85280255

Meat In Bread and Seal Meat Soup tie at 110 health and last 30 minutes. Smoked Moose Meat matches them on regeneration at 7 per tick, but gives 105 health and lasts 25 minutes. Piquant Pie gives the same 105 health and lasts 30 minutes, with regeneration of 6 per tick.

None of these foods gives any eitr, and all of them give much less stamina than health.

Roasted Crust Pie341000304
Scorching Medley32950254
Fish 'n' Bread30900303

Oatmeal and Pancakes tie at 115 stamina, but Oatmeal also gives 85 eitr, so it is the better pick if you want stamina and eitr from a single slot. Lingonberry Juice comes from the Deep North, which makes it the last biome in the progression covered below.

The best stamina foods give about a third as much health as stamina, the reverse of the health foods above.

Foods with the most eitr

Meatballs and Poteitr3518105255
Oven Pancake3718105305

Marinated Greens321695304

Fish Soup, Meatballs and Poteitr and Oven Pancake all give 105 eitr. Fish Soup and Oven Pancake also last 30 minutes, against 25 for Meatballs and Poteitr. Oatmeal, in the stamina table, gives less eitr than any of these (85), but far more stamina.

Longest-lasting foods

Every food in this table lasts 50 minutes, longer than anything in the tables above. They differ widely in what they give.

Each of these gives equal health and stamina. Northern Morning Fare is the strongest, with 85 health, 85 stamina, 43 eitr and regeneration of 7 per tick. Ashlands Gourmet Bowl and Mushrooms Galore á la Mistlands come next, and both also give eitr. Black Forest Buffet Platter and Hearty Mountain Logger's Stew give the least, with no eitr and regeneration of 3 per tick.

The best foods by biome

The table lists the best foods whose ingredients come from each biome, in the order you reach those biomes. Muckshake is the only drink here; everything else is food.

What the progression shows

For stamina, the Deep North's Lingonberry Juice is the best of these, with Mushroom Omelette from the Mistlands next at 85. For health, Wolf Skewer comes first and Sausages second.
